ABOUT ACTION AGAINST HUNGER

Many families in Zambia are currently struggling to buy food and often go without for days. Zambia's economy has plummeted which has put a great strain on poor families trying to get the basic food to feed their families.

Providing a daily meal is a real challenge for many households in Zambia.  Especially for families who are also trying to care for orphans on top of their own needs. The plummet in the economy along with the the effects of the Coronavirus has greatly affected many families.

Malnourishment is a major problem in Zambia children resulting in them not doing well at school.

Nationally, 40 percent of children under 5 years are stunted. Analysis by age groups shows that 54% of children from 18 months to 2 years have stunted growth.

Jireh’s aim is to provide help for the neediest families, partnering with Stir the Fire Ministries Zambia to target the most needy and vulnerable through their 8 churches which are spread across the Copperbelt areas.  Our feeding programs also include the elderly, widows, and people with special needs.

We have committed to run the programme in one area at a time, expanding as and when funds increase.

At present our program will include monthly supplies of a 25k bag of mealie meal and oil for 22 families who are also caring for the orphans and a regular feeding centre for 50 additional children mainly orphans from our designated communities

How it works

  1. Every month a 25 kg bag of mealie meal and jar of oil will be given to an identified family in need

  2. The 25 kg bag should be sufficient to feed the family for one month.

  3. Each bag will be either delivered or collected from their local church

  4. The elders will be responsible for allocating the food at their discretion.

Orphan and vulnerable children feeding program

Children in the community will be identified through STF churches regardless of wether they attend church or faith A designated home or church building will be used as a feeding centre for children to attend to eat a meal

"Many thanks to everyone who has been part of this, you just don't know what this means in many lives in our communities. I wish you could witness the impact this is having in the lives of many. Today I saw many parents crying after receiving bags of mealie meal, I became emotional too and I cried in the presence of them. Many thanks for all your generosity my friends"
